A law firm in Morgantown, West Virginia, is currently seeking a driven and strategically minded Associate Attorney to support its litigation team. This role is remote-first but requires in-state licensure and availability for in-person court appearances as needed. The ideal candidate brings strong commercial litigation experience, preferably with exposure to oil and gas matters, and demonstrates tenacity in mastering new legal domains.
Handle case files from inception to resolution with minimal supervision
Draft, file, and argue motions in both state and federal court
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, pleadings, and discovery responses
Take and defend depositions
Collaborate with senior attorneys on trial preparation and courtroom strategy
Maintain direct communication with clients and participate in negotiations
Ensure adherence to litigation timelines and court procedural rules
Active license to practice law in West Virginia
Based in or willing to relocate to West Virginia; local presence required for hearings
Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial litigation
Prior exposure to oil and gas-related legal matters preferred
Demonstrated ability to manage caseload and meet deadlines
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Law Review or similar editorial experience is advantageous
Admission to the West Virginia State Bar
Advanced legal research and writing capabilities
Effective oral advocacy and negotiation abilities
Strong interpersonal and client service skills
