Special Police Officer I & II Georgetown University comprises two unique campuses in the nation's capital. Requirements The Special Police Officer I & II performs law enforcement functions on University property necessary to protect the life, well-being, and property of students, faculty, staff, visitors, dignitaries, and others through policing, patrol, event security, investigation, understand access control systems, circulation and safety systems, effect arrests, and emergency response as outlined in General Orders and Special Orders, as directed by superior officers, and as proscribed in the Consortium of Universities Law Enforcement Training Academy (or equivalent) and other departmental trainings. Supports the University community by providing information and assistance. Work Interactions Directly responsible to the Police Sergeant for fulfilling duties assigned, performing patrol functions, and specialized assignments according to all special and general orders in the protection of life and property at Georgetown University. This person works independently with general supervision. The incumbent works with other Police Officers, Communication Officers and Specialists, Security Officers, and Student Guards. Requirements and Qualifications High School Diploma (or equivalent) required Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications Must be a U.S. Citizen Must be at least 21 years of age Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and must be able to pass Georgetown University driver's certification All applicants are subject to a written test, a report writing test, drug test, physical examination by a medical doctor to University specifications, and extensive psychological testing. Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation For Non-Lateral Hires: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Campus Special Police Officer Commission Must be able to complete all required university police training to include certification in Arrest Control Tactics, Baton, and OC-based Aerosol Subject Restraint; Training includes successful completion of the Consortium of Universities Law Enforcement Academy within the probation period For Lateral Hires: Must have current certification in Baton/OC Spray Must have successfully completed the Consortium of Universities Law Enforcement Academy or equivalent training and certification from a civilian or military law enforcement academy; Should have basic to intermediate knowledge of criminal and civil law and police policies and procedures Must be comfortable using computers including Microsoft Word, and email and/or the ability to learn these applications is essential Must possess tact, patience, a professional and courteous demeanor, and a pleasant personality in order to deal with students, staff, faculty, visitors, and community members Must respect the use of police powers in relation to a University environment Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including report writing, are essential Work Mode Designation This position has been designated as On-Campus.
