Job Description

A Recreational Therapist position is available for the upcoming school year, serving K-12 students in a school district near Los Lunas, NM, approximately 30 miles from Albuquerque. This full-time role offers an opportunity to apply specialized therapeutic skills in a dynamic educational environment, supporting students with diverse needs.

Location: Los Lunas, NM (traveling to multiple school sites within the district)Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PMDuration: August 1, 2025 May 22, 2026Work Type: Onsite, Itinerant role (traveling between school locations)Hours: 35 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement group activities to enhance social skills for students with autism
• Support students with ADHD by facilitating structured physical activities to help manage energy levels
• Assist students with developmental delays in improving gross motor skills through adapted sports and recreation
• Guide students with disabilities to access and participate in community recreational resources for better integration
• Provide relaxation techniques and coping strategies to students dealing with stress, anxiety, or depression
• Manage a caseload of approximately 35 students ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade

Qualifications:

• Must hold current New Mexico Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (NM CTRS) certification
• Experience serving students with diverse developmental and behavioral needs
• Ability to travel between multiple school sites within the district
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students and staff
