General Summary The ideal candidate will have the core values to protect and serve the citizens of Richland, be cognizant of the responsibility that is required to provide clean safe drinking water. This person will be a team player and willing to help other members of the team to flourish and be successful, have strong problem-solving skills to ensure the Water Plant is meeting regulatory requirements.
Under the direction of the Water Manager or designee, operates and monitors water treatment plant equipment to meet quality specifications; performs housekeeping duties to ensure safe, clean and orderly conditions at the treatment plant. Works rotating shifts, to include weekends and holidays.

There are four Shift Operators that work in pairs who work a week on and then a week off, rotating between graveyard shift and day shift every other shift. The Relief Operator works dayshift Monday through Friday unless covering a Shift Operators vacation. Annual vacation requests are handled by seniority per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The wage for this position is set by a Collective Bargaining Agreement starting at Step A $32.73.

Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in water treatment plant or water distribution system operation.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - Valid driver's license upon hire date.
- Must have current Washington State Water Plant Operator II Certification upon hire date and obtain Washington State Water Plant Operator III Certification within one (1) year of eligibility to test.
- Current Washington State Water Distribution Manager III Certification or obtain within one (1) year of eligibility to test.
