Title: Estimator I - Underground Utilities Division

Reports To: Senior Estimator / Division Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator I to join our Underground Utilities Division based in Austin, Texas . This entry-level estimating position is ideal for individuals looking to grow their career in civil construction, site development, and underground utility infrastructure projects (water, sewer, drainage). You will support the estimating team by performing quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, vendor coordination, and bid preparation for public and private infrastructure projects.

This role is perfect for someone who is analytical, organized, and eager to learn in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with strong career advancement potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from construction plans, profiles, and specifications for water, sewer, and storm drainage utility projects .

• Solicit and compile quotes from vendors and subcontractors to support cost proposals.

• Enter and maintain bid data in estimating software and Excel-based bid templates .

• Assist in preparing complete and competitive bid packages , including scope review, clarifications, and proposal documentation.

• Support the maintenance of a vendor/subcontractor database to ensure strong bid coverage & competitive pricing.

• Review plans, specifications, and addenda to identify scope gaps, risks, and missing information .

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure practical and accurate bid assumptions.

• Participate in bid reviews and post-bid analysis to evaluate estimating accuracy and improve future bidding strategies.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering , or related field preferred; equivalent field experience accepted.

• Experience: 0-2 years of experience in estimating or field work related to underground utilities, civil construction, or site work.

• Technical Skills:

  • Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency .

  • Exposure to or familiarity with estimating software (HeavyBid preferred).

  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans and specifications .

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills .
