Maui Humane Society is an open-air animal shelter for cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, and other animals in need of safe shelter. We are the island's only open-admission animal shelter, providing veterinary and routine care and helping surrendered animals find a new home. We also provide humane law enforcement services, humane education and outreach, and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. As an Animal Care Assistant at Maui Humane Society, your primary purpose will be to provide exceptional care for our beloved feline residents, reporting to the Animal Care Manager-Cat and under the guidance of the Chief of Operations. Your essential duties will include cleaning and disinfecting cat habitats while maintaining a sanitary environment, providing food, water, exercise, and enrichment for our furry friends. You'll also have the exciting responsibility of keeping detailed records and monitoring their health and behavior. This position allows you to work closely with our Enrichment Manager to ensure each cat enjoys daily mental and physical stimulation. You will assist with adoption matchmaking, support the Veterinary Department, and help train volunteers, all while fostering a positive, collaborative team environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• General knowledge of animal behavior.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Demonstrable ability to care for animals in a safe and nurturing capacity.

General Qualifications:

• Must have a passion for animals and support the mission of the Maui Humane Society.
• Must treat animals humanely with love and concern both on and off the job and transmit these values to others.
• Must adhere to all local laws regarding personally owned animals
• General knowledge of pet behavior and care. Ability to work with all kinds of animals in a safe and responsible manner.

Additional Qualifications that would benefit this position:

• Previous experience in animal related field preferably with animal care
• Previous animal welfare experience
